why is it that if mediocre talented caucasian comes to a asian country esp if he can speak child level local language, then every applauds them, but if the roles were reversed, it would be "bloody FOB", go learn the language properly. People should develop some self identity and no be so anglophile, my two dongs

yeah likewise when you write in english you dont use the correct word, maybe you mean enunciation or pronunciation, as its pretty hard to sing with the correct spelling..bloody fob

Rogier van Doorn please explain how english being a global language justifies when a caucasian can speak vietnamese everyone makes a big deal, but the 100,000 of asian speaking english overseas is a non event

Adam Huynh dunno what it has to do with being caucasian or asian, anyone coming to my country (where english is also not the first language) temporarily and making an effort to speak the language even at child level would be equally applauded by me.

i am refering to not the magnitude, but im sure the thousands of caucasians throughout asian who can speak the local language are made a bigger deal then the thousands of asians who can speak english at often a higher level

it's impossible to not refer to the magnitude. The number of foreign English Language speakers dwarfs then number of foreigners who speak Vietnamese, it is perfectly commonplace for a non native english speaker to exist. It is a rarity for a non native Vietnamese speaker to exist. thus the big deal. Its a silly observation

People also dont really compliment me on my English (or post movies of it on FB, for that matter), it's sort of the deal when you go abroad... that you speak what is accepted as the global language

@antonio so what u mean is that whilst learning english for a vietnamese is just as difficult as a westerner leaning vietnamese, because the vietnamese due to circumstances has made more of a effort ie economic migration as as such there are greater nu
mbers of them, the fact that these westerns who can speak badly accented vietnamese should be applauded. If that was the case why shouldnt we applaud
oatmeal
for being a american who has adopted begger ways by frealoading and going to pagodas to get a free meal..after all thats also a rarity. My logic tells me not to make something a big deal just becuase its rare sight, maybe if you had the intellectual capacity of a child it would be different.

Do you even analyze bro? I never said it should be this way, you asked why it is the way it is, you already know the answer. I think what you meant to say was "I resent that these white people get praised for speaking mediocre Vietnamese while a more talented ethnic Viet english speaker abroad gets ridiculed". Colonialism is a hellofa drug. Do you want foreigners to learn Vietnamese?

For Lee Kirby, he has many fans not because he can sing Vietnamese songs, but because he understands the songs, so he put the feeling into the them when he sings. Besides, he is handsome and funny. Hehehe, many girls don't mind to have a date with him, me too
