Joey Arnold My visa expired 2 years ago. There is a $30/day fee. So, I may owe $20K or more for overstaying.

Corrie Stroup
Corrie Stroup The regulations state that the highest amount they can charge you is $2000, FYI. It was brought up a few days ago on one of your threads.
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Corrie Stroup I know but I feel they may ignore that nice little law: you know people ignore laws all the time
Manage
Corrie Stroup
Corrie Stroup The thing is though Joey, the reason they ignore the law is to get money out of you, not torture you. People are greedy, not evil. Everyone is after the almighty dollar and sometimes, just sometimes, the best way to that dollar is through being sadisti...See More

Ella Beth
Ella Beth Joey Arnold I'm not mad or trying to take the piss (too much) I'm just super surprised. I do hope though that things work out, normally it's all down to money, you show them the benjamins they'll likely show you the door fairly civilly

Joey Arnold Ella Beth $500 is not enough

Matthew Johnson
Matthew Johnson I feel like I would just go to Thailand illegally and then buy a ticket out and play dumb

John Master
John Master that is NOT an option, entering a country illegally will get you prison.. thailand is VERY strict on this
Remove
Allan Kamen
Allan Kamen Lots of places to just walk into Cambodia and deal with a new set of problems. The border is long and porous and not really monitored.

If you cant find a way to leave legally, carry a couple hundred dollars with you as potential bribes and walk to Cambodia. I've travelled on my motorbike maybe 200km of the border and although some is marked as mined (from the war), most is just open space.

Matthew Johnson Yeah your kind of making the best out of a pretty fucked up situation 🤔 I like this plan though, I doubt with proper bribe money and a ticket back to the west they would stop you

Bart Hamilton
Bart Hamilton You've got two options. 1) Try to sneak out to Cambodge, but then you have a new headache there, or 2) Just try to leave. They will escort you to a quarantine, which is a sort of soft prison. You'll be given a bed and food, and after a few weeks, your embassy people will show up, you will get deported, and blacklisted, but blacklists for overstaying are not forever. You could probably come back here in 5 yearsor even less. After all, you've done nothing political or criminal. Just a visa violation. My advice would be to take option 2. Option 1 might involve you getting into trouble with the Cambodian authorities, and I'm pretty sure they are softer over here.

Corrie Stroup Like Bao and Bart said, regardless that 90% of the expats in VN THINK you're a nutter, however you feel about yourself personally, just go and ACT/PRETEND to be crazy by your estimation and get a certificate.

Wham bam, thank ya man

King Hanna
King Hanna I'm sure the American embassy will help you. Isn't Trump in Vietnam this week?

King Hanna
King Hanna Jason, I understand they said go to immigration. Now he's done that and is unsuccessful, gotta start back at square 1. Even if the result is jail time, the American embassy has to provide better guidance than the trolls on the expat page. Until you can give better advise, stfu.
Remove
Bart Hamilton
Bart Hamilton Essentially, deportation is the only way. It isn't that painful.
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold How much for overstaying penalties?
Manage
Bart Hamilton
Bart Hamilton If you have no money, then nothing, but the American embassy might charge you for the flight out, and it's usually first class

Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Bart Hamilton will I be detained?
Manage
Bart Hamilton
Bart Hamilton Yes, but so what? It's not like a heavy duty prison. There'll be Indian businessmen and lost Africans all playing chess in there
Remove
Ella Beth
Ella Beth Joey Arnold yeah you'll be fine, maybe a few con men and some legit insane killers but probably no one will be the forceful sodomising type.
Remove
Bart Hamilton
Bart Hamilton My guess is they'll keep you for a couple of weeks just to find out what the hell you've been doing all this time. Once the embassy get involved, the wheels start turning pretty fast.
Remove
Ella Beth
Ella Beth Joey Arnold also, is this not a really long troll or are you actually 2 years overstayed? Because you always seem a little too smart for that kind of rookie error whenever you do anything else online

Vitaly Chetverikov
Vitaly Chetverikov Joey, you come from the greatest country in the world. Instead of staying there, you chose to be illegally unemployed in Vietnam and are contemplating becoming illegally unemployed in Cambodia. What is wrong with you?

Bart Hamilton Joey Arnold Dude, you are not going to the States with $500 without govt. support. Look at the reality of your situation.
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Bart Hamilton I need support to be American?
Manage
Bart Hamilton
Bart Hamilton No, you need money to fly. If you haven't got it, the American Embassy/Consulate will provide it. But they will want it back, obviously.

Bart Hamilton
Bart Hamilton Except in very special cases, like my mate Indian Bryan who actually went the Bien Hoa route for real, and who now resides in a care home in NJ

Lee Melvin
Lee Melvin Curious what would happen in Cambodia if you crossed illegally. Wonder if it just would result in a fine to pay or what from the Cambodian authorities then get your normal visa and stamp.

Jason Spiker
Jason Spiker The best part is, the more times he posts this same thing, the less it shows he's crazy due to all the forethought and worry. So he's eliminating his possibility for going to get a mental health certificate.
Remove
Jason Silverman
Jason Silverman He doesn’t like any suggestion. He could be trolling.
Remove
Vitaly Chetverikov
Vitaly Chetverikov The more he posts, the more I'm convinced he's being unemployed-in-Asia-ironically. If that indeed is the case, I must admit it's a top-notch performance.
Remove
Jason Spiker
Jason Spiker I agree. It all seems too ridiculous to be real. Either an enormous troll or the biggest dumpster fire I have seen. No idea.
Remove
Vitaly Chetverikov

Vitaly Chetverikov If your new goal is going back to the US as you say, don't go to Moc Bai. They can't ignore a foreigner with an expired visa at an international airport.
