Dave Bakewell That would depend on where you are now and how much reserve currency you have available to you.
If you are outside the country then no big deal. Get a new visa.
.
If you are inside the country on a 2 year overstay then leave the country but be prepared when you go through passport control to deal with the fines you will face. If you are leaving they are unlikely to arrest you to deport you but you will have to pay the fines.
.
If they catch you other than at the airport you will be taken to an immigration detention center and processed for deportation. Fines and/or detention in lieu of payment are probable.

Manage
Dave Bakewell
Dave Bakewell US97 gets you a flight to BKK and out again. Then you have 30 days to figure out what to do. Cheaper than flying to Cambodia (unless you have already been barred from Thailand).
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Dave Bakewell, going to Cambodia by bus would be better. I went Cambodia 2 times already from Vietnam. So, I know how to do visa runs. It is better to buy a round trip package before leaving.
Manage
Simon Nelson
Simon Nelson If you go through any immigration control they will check your visa and won't let you through without paying the huge fines that would be due. Be that at a land border or airport.

You probably could sneak across the Cambodian border somewhere as it is pretty porous but then you wouldn't have an entry stamp in your passport and could possibly be in even more trouble.

Uli Ilu
Uli Ilu I doubt you'll get an extension of any kind. They'll want you out of the country and you'll have to pay a massive fine. If you don't have the money, work and get some and do it quickly. Not over another 2 years. Otherwise they may want to take you to jail. Get it done and get out of the country with a ban for 5 years or so
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Where would I go?
Manage
Uli Ilu
Uli Ilu Anywhere but here. You won't have a choice unless you stay for another few years illegally and get yourself in a lot more trouble. You have to let go of the idea of staying in Vietnam. Completely forget that. No country will allow you to stay after living there illegally for 2 years.
Remove
Lorin Barrett
Lorin Barrett That's right, it'll be unlikely to get your visa extended
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Uli Ilu Is 2 years the limit?
Manage
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Lorin Barrett, the issue at hand is not about extensions. I talked about how I was not able to get an extension 2 years ago. I mostly want to know why I did not get an extension. But I also am trying to fix my problem. I am looking for solutions. I did not say that I am looking for, say, for example, an extension. I am just trying to figure things out. I am also sad that I was not able to get an extension 2 years ago.
Manage
Uli Ilu
Uli Ilu I have no clue what the limit is but you're most definitely over it. You will have to leave, whatever the reason may be for you not being able to get an extension 2 years ago. Why did you stay without an extension?
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Uli Ilu, I did not leave Vietnam because they said I might be on like a blacklist or something. That scared me.
Manage
Uli Ilu
Uli Ilu So you didn't leave because you wouldn't be able to come back?

You're now in a situation where, I think everyone can agree, it would be very unwise to stay longer and you will definitely be banned. But that's better than jail
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Uli Ilu what is an alternative?
Manage
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Uli Ilu you want me to run out and do what?
Manage
Uli Ilu
Uli Ilu The alternative is stay illegally for longer and keep living with the anxiety of knowing that you aren't allowed allowed to be here. Couple that with the fact that you don't have any foot to stand on if anything ever happens. Also, don't forget the most important part, they can throw you in jail if they feel like it. That will eventually happen and, I trust, you don't want to land up in a Vietnamese jail.

Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Uli Ilu no..... what is the alternative to all of that? Sounds bad.... but what would I do not in Vietnam?
· Reply · 1 hr
Manage
Uli Ilu
Uli Ilu Or, find someone very connected and give them tons of money. You'll have to part with tons of money either way. Maybe not the jail option though
· Reply · 1 hr
Remove
Uli Ilu
Uli Ilu There is no alternative. Those are your options. No easy way out of this one at all. The mistake was made when you starting over staying your VISA. Get out, start a new life somewhere else. Hell, I'd go back to the states and try and find some factory job or similar. That's better than being in trouble here.

Saliba Memon
Saliba Memon Are you from the US?
Remove
Saliba Memon
Saliba Memon I've been mostly out of the US for over 10 years and I did go back to start again, work and so on. It wasn't easy but I was able to do it w/o huge problems. I just want to encourage you to not overestimate how bad it is going back to the US. I have to say, having done it, that I find a lot of expats over dramatize the problems there. If you looked at the worst case scenario in both the US or Vietnam you'd be looking at a homeless shelter in the US vs. prison time in Vietnam. It's an easy choice right? As others have said, you're getting past (or have past) the point of what you'd prefer or like. You're playing now to avoid longer term issues like physical or mental health issues from being incarcerated in a foreign jail. I'd work with the Vietnamese lady others are recommending or plead with someone (embassy/congress person back home) that you've made bad decisions due to drug/alcohol or mental health issues...I'm not making fun of you but you've got to this point on some level because of how you're approaching things...
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Saliba Memon I didn't make bad choices
Manage
Uli Ilu
Uli Ilu Joey, Saliba is trying to help and I'd follow what is being said 100%. Unfortunately, you have made bad decisions. Maybe not majorly bad ones, but you're in a bit of a situation now that should have been looked at 2 years ago. I know you tried but leaving it this point was a decision that didn't help. This is a hole you can dig yourself out of. You just need to do it instead of digging down farther
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Uli Ilu what were my bad choices? Is trusting in people a bad choice? Is the moral of my story is not to trust people whom promised to help? I should stop trusting people? Trusting people is a bad attribute to have? I am just to nice and gullible?
Manage
Saliba Memon
Saliba Memon J.A. One thing I notice in your posts is you keep looping back through the process of "you went to immigration, you had mixed signals, it's scary, deportation, how do I get back in when i can't leave" and so on. At a minimum, you need to get out of that mental loop. It's not working for you or solving your problems. You may not agree that you're making bad decions, but if you don't get out of that cycle, decisions will be made for you, and that will not be a good thing IMO.
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Saliba Memon, there are a few problems I'm trying to solve at the same time. I want to know what happened. That is a problem. The more important problem might be in the present tense. I will try to fix my problem when I have enough money. I will try to make a new visa. I go through the loops in order to help people see the loop.
Manage
Saliba Memon
Saliba Memon I understand, your situation sounds complicated. I hope that you can work it out with the Vietnamese lady here in the group.
Remove
Uli Ilu
Uli Ilu Joey, unfortunately those were mistakes. I have made those mistakes too. Things like these should not be entrusted to anyone else. You now need to get yourself out of this situation. Like Saliba said, you need to change your thought processes, because the way you view whats going on isnt healthy and will land you in more trouble. Please talk to the lady who is a professional and deals with these kinds of things for a living. Keep looking forward and work for your best future. I'm sure you can get yourself into a much better situation bud. Best of luck!
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Saliba Memon, I PM around 5 Vietnamese today. They all tell me to pay the fines and good luck. Some say I might be able to buy a new visa, an invitation letter to be vetted, to get back into Vietnam. However, it depends. It seems I'm on a blacklist because schools reported me to immigration, maybe. It seems, I was blacklisted via complaints.
Manage
Saliba Memon
Saliba Memon I see. So, I'm guessing you'll have difficulty working your way out of this if you have complaints from schools...?
Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Uli Ilu I have been talking to many professional Vietnamese and have done so many times before. I will continue to think and do as I do. I am not going to stop doing what I do. I am choosing not to change who I am. I believe in what I do.
Manage
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Saliba Memon immigration and the schools did not really tell me about these things. The bigger problem seems to be the blacklist thing and not so much on how I got on a blacklist in the first place. But I am dying to know how or who put me on a blacklist. I am a curious cat.
