Circle K Story 02




  • Elizabeth Homfray I have also known people like that he seems a little more determined to get peoples attention. David Lyonz go to his youtube page. Look at "Chasing Vietnamese Girls". That is way overstepping social boundaries. I am afraid he will piss off the wrong people and end up in serious bother, especially chasing young girls through alleys after admitting he knew they were scared of him.

    Oh and he wants to pay $100 including all the bills and daily maid + cooking. Said he can teach me English in return. upset emoticon

  • Elizabeth Homfray It was me that said that but out of concern for him and other people he needs to be sent home where he can get some proper care. Those alleys he was in are no place for foreigners at the best of times let alone chasing young girls he is very lucky that no father, brother or uncle came out to deal with him. We have all seen what happens when they catch dog thieves imagine what they do for chasing scared girls down alleys?

    I still have yet to see any hard evidence that he is dangerous.

  • Michael Bones What do you mean 'supposed' classes? What do you class as a 'real teacher'? Any person regardless of their qualifications is able to run and teach private classes and students. He/she would not be able to attract the best rate and environment but who cares? The students are in charge of their own wallets and can decide themselves how they want to spend their money.

    Why did she call police? and why did police want to throw you in jails? I don't understand why reason? You're foreign people who live in Vietnam now, if you    haven't bad actions, Vietnamese NEVER CALL POLICE and every one treat you well. I think she called police because you got noodles but you didn't pay money. You was asking her to get them freely and making her work be confuse while she was working and she was being so busy. I think that you're NEVER UNDERSTAND anything about cultural Vietnam and everything which even children can do. ( although where place they were and grew up). YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT: Vietnamese, some people are rich but some one are so poor. If she who Circle K Vietnam Staff is rich, she can give you some noodles freely then she'll pay Circle K Vietnam by herself. But sometimes she have NO MONEY TO PAY for you. I'm student and I have met you for along time. So I can understand you clearly. Did you remember last time when we went to Pandoral center? You called a big Sandwich and so many foods. Only you ate them, I didn't!.. But then you asked me to pay 680.000 (680,000) VND. I felt so sad because I'm a student and I'm poor. But you have no money, If you didn't pay it for them, they would call police. So I paid it for you. You was happy but I was so sad. Maybe you never understand me and others. You always think that every one will pay money for you!.. If you want to live in Vietnam more, change your thought, guy pls!.. Honest. HOPE YOU HAPPY!.

  • Jonathan Barlow He clearly has social difficulty and communication issues. It has created some awkward and uncomfortable situations as I have seen in his videos. However, I've seen no evidence of violence or theft. Plenty of hearsay, but no proof.

    Considering the dif    ficulty he seems to have in controlling his actions and outbursts, and also the fact that he seems to film pretty much everything he ever does and show it to the world (no matter how embarassing it might be), he seems to be a very open and honest person. If he was any kind of a threat, there should be some indication of it in his videos.

    Nina Kaiser, unchecked mental illness can be especially dangerous when prodded with a big stick and teased for being different. He has enough about him to understand what is right and wrong (clearly evident from his video logs, if you guys have watched them) and has lived here for over a year independently without harming anybody.

  • Nina Kaiser Even if he harms nobody, the fact that he feeds off this negative attention shows very low self esteem and could become his own victim via depression. Besides, just because he's went one year without harming somebody doesn't say much. Some mental illnesses such as bipolar can go through cycles that lasts years. Fact is no one knows because he is unchecked.

  • Jonathan Barlow I don't believe anyone here is suggesting that he doesn't need help. But some are suggesting that he is dangerous, especially towards young girls, and there is simply not one shred of evidence to support those claims.

I assume as well he doesn't appreciate that someone has a tour commenting to the camera what he sees in that private room. I m impressed the monk controls his temper that well.

  • David Lyonz Scotty: I don't think he does know this is wrong. Not everyone has the ability to understand society and how people are expected to behave. Some people just don't care, but for others they think they are doing the right thing when they're being a pain. In this guys mind he wasn't doing anything wrong. His continual cries of "I just wanted to say 'you are nice'" clearly indicate a person who is not quite right in the head. 

    Ultimately people who are different and crazy are fascinating. Sometimes they are entertaining, interesting, different. They are often great artists or inventors or have talents in other areas. What great painting or great piece of music was not created by a troubled soul with some mental issues ?

    People do dismiss them and judge them. It makes people feel reassured to see this and think "Well at least I have it together better than that guy". But there are no "points" in life. You don't get a report card at the end that grades you according to how much property you acquired or how much money you had in the bank. Who is to say that anyone's life is better or worth more than anyone else's ? 

    Is having a mental problems something that makes you a lesser person, even if there's nothing you can do about it ? Does it mean that you will go through life unloved and unfulfilled ? I bet that this guy is quite happy with his life. In my experience it is those who have the least in life that are the happiest. 

    I have some great friends who are handicapped or mentally ill. I find them some of the most honest and genuine people I know. I often prefer their company over the fakeness of "successful normal people". Life is weird. People are strange. Better to be the orange sheep than the grey one.

    However I still think he's just a bit too creepy to be around young girls. Dude needs to understand the importance of shaving and combing his hair if he's to be allowed to teach.

  • Des Snowdon I like how Jonathan Barlow often takes the side of the 'underdog', it is at times commendable. But in this instance, it should be realised that this is a person acting in a way that will dampen the image of foreigners. No, no, no it is not ok to chase girls around. No, it is not ok to annoy workers at shops. No it is not ok to annoy people at Pagodas. In summation, his overall behaviour is not ok, nor is there grounds to defend it. He has a personality disorder, no doubt & it will escalate to stupider conduct. 

    On one hand we all want a safer Saigon from thieves etc etc yet this oddball is running around & although not dangerous in the conventional sense, he certainly could be or his antics could lead to an accident causing injury.

    No doubt he is marked now & won't get a new visa, my hope anyway.

  • Elizabeth Homfray Circle K staff like most convenience store staff handle some pretty awkward situations all over the world. I have seen how some drunk foreigners behave in the one in D2 but I haven't ever heard of them calling the police. He must of really been making them upset for quite some time he had a whole lot of receipts from the video I saw. His mother obviously knows he has a problem I looked at his FB page and she was looking for him the day before the incident as she hadn't heard from him. She obviously monitors him. I am not analysing the situation but lack of contact and his mum looking for him then this an escalated incident would appear he is having problems and has less and less options. The police forced the family that was housing him to evict him as well. Maybe he is not a danger to others but himself for sure especially that he is getting into physical altercations with police. Does anybody have a constructive way to help him? Rather than just going around and around amongst ourselves? I would hate the next thread to be about how something happened to him and the best we can say is I told you so.

  • Elizabeth Homfray I think he needs someone to talk to him that has some sort experience with people will mental health issues. I was at home I would try and make contact with his family if that didn't work I would talk to social services or a charity like Mission Australia who have the resources to handle these situations. I have seen people have tried to make contact with his mum through FB but she obviously isn't taking notice. I know the embassy will be next to useless and just direct us to the police so I don't know that's why I was asking if anyone else knew what to do?

  • Elizabeth Homfray At least his family is there. I also think his own people will be able handle him better. Most Vietnamese that he seems to be around have little English and little understanding that he has serious social problems. He makes people here angry and aggressive toward him. I don't really understand how your health system works I know it's not free like in Australia but surely they have some sort of system to handle these people? Or do they just become homeless statistics?

  • Jeremy Manser I'm from uk. I do agree with you, I'm just making the point that people really don't deal with this well. He may have problems, I dont know. There are 200 + comments on this thread and not much practial help among it. I feel for this guy but at the same time don't want the hassle of doing anything to help. I am just honest about how little I care, but I think I am not alone, here or USA no one really cares enough to help until something bad happens.

  • Elizabeth Homfray No but I think they would be better at dealing with his behaviour. Maybe not as much tolerance I imagine a Circle K in the USA would of dealt with him immediately not of waited until it got to the point where they had to call police. A better understanding that he has social issues maybe. His mothers page and his make references to church and Christianity, in Australia they have faith based charities that help with these sort of issues. They have people with experience in helping him to get a job a house etc. look I don't know maybe you think all Americans are arseholes and don't care about anyone but that hasn't been my experience I think he would cope better there, than here leeching off people who can ill afford to look after him financially or mentally.

  • Elizabeth Homfray I know the Australian consulate would do very little except contact his family in Australia and that would only be after what happened with the police. Do you think if I contacted the American Embassy they would help him? Even if it was just to give him some money to get a place to live and clean himself up? He looks like he hasn't showered in while in those police videos.

  • Jeremy Manser I base my comments about US healthcare on the slander of the British system during Obamas push for universal healthcare..... in the UK mental health is terribly under resourced. As for USA people as a whole, I don't have any particular bad feeling, its a big place and includes some blood relatives.
