Christine Haines I
call myself a traveller. Vietnam is the only foreign country I've been
to and we did the tourist thing. We stayed in hotels and took guided
tours. We didn't go off the beaten track on our own. When I journeyed
through my own country I traveled. I lived and worked in northern
Australia for over a decade. Minh Tuấn Nguyễn is right. A traveller
spends time. Tourists spend money.

Pei Lazar I
think it is also an economic distinction. Tourists stay in luxury
accommodations and see the sights, while travelers prefer to be more
“local” and frequent local establishments and less luxurious
accommodations. Tourists are comfortable. Travelers will move outside
of their comfort zone.

Chris Hind Presently
backpacking Guatemala and in Antigua. Tourists visit all the Western
food places like burgers and pizza. Sometimes it drives me nuts looking
for the local cuisine in tourist areas. I've shunned all western food
since I started traveling a little over a month ago. Going for a year.

Rob Lock Traveller
are cheap tourists. Travellers try to gain some sense of superiority by
claiming they get closer to the people etc etc. Unless you know the
language how are you really going to get close to the people. Have
observed 'travellers' in Asia for more than 30 years. Most of them just
take the 'guided tours' listed in Lonely Planet etc.
